He said for the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), the second semester examinations have been postponed to August this year while the third semester will be held in the first quarter of 2021.

“This is to prevent an outbreak among the hostels,” he said. Meanwhile, exam dates for the second semester of national pre-university programme STPM has been postponed to August 2020 and the third semester will be pushed to the first quarter of 2021.

With the Movement Control Order (MCO) implemented in all states in Malaysia except Sarawak due to the continuous increase in Covid-19 cases, there is huge concern for SPM and STPM students who still have to return to school on 20 January and sit for physical examinations despite the SPM trial examinations being cancelled by the Ministry of Education (MOH). He added that opening schools to all students would lead to a greater risk of exposure to Covid-19. Dr Mah also said that postponing the SPM and STPM exams would further delay and disrupt the plans of teenagers for tertiary education. “This is a difficult dilemma, but a balanced decision had to be taken by the Education Ministry.

The STPM was also tentatively set for March 8. COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on the lives of students facing major exams this year. In March, it was announced that the May STPM (Semesters 2 and 3) would be held in November instead.
